In the quieter side of Jaipur, tucked into RIICO Bagru, a soft thak-thak rhythm echoes through sunlit courtyards. Here, our team of karigars diligently press wooden blocks into clay paste, imprinting them in mud. The cloth, layered with tradition, is then dipped into age-old vats of Indigo — that crude, inky blue that is more feeling than color. Once dried and rinsed, the patterns become visible — clear, detailed, and true to the craft.
The Neel Collection comes from a real place — from hands that have practiced this craft for years, from brass pots that carry stories in every stain, from rooftops where fabric dries slowly, away from the noise of fast living.
Dabu printing is the heart of this practice. A technique rooted in time, it involves creating a resist pattern with mud, followed by multiple dye baths and meticulous sun-drying rituals. The colors are natural — madder red, turmeric yellow, pomegranate green — but it is Indigo that is touted as the soul of Neel. This color has an innate depth, an intuition, with the calm certainty of something archaic.
Neel, as envisioned by Dharan, is a gentle homage to the rich Indian viraasat. The silhouettes are intentionally understated: kurtas, dresses, co-ords that are soft, feel light on the skin and carry the comfort of knowing they’ve been made without haste. This is clothing that doesn’t demand attention but earns it naturally.
